The Colony

The Colony, Tangalle, is the last house on the Matara road before the pleasant market town of Tangalle set on a small rise directly overlook the indian ocean.

The house is a much converted and extended British period bungalow. it has been completely rstored and now resembles a typical Black and White' as built throughout Asia in the early 20th century.

A haven of luxuriously appointed rooms that brings back memories of yesteryear, when living was a more serene and peaceful existence.

beautifully crafted local furniture, paintings and other antiques make it a genuine refuge for the weary traveller. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate, with the accent on feeling very much at home.

The colony's living and dining areas have been specifically designed to make you feel very much at home. The mood is cozy and informal, with an atmosphere conductive to making friends.

Guest are full entitled to mingle or to request their privacy.. either way our living and dining apace can be arrange to accommodate your mood.

Malacca
A sensuously decorated double room in black, red and gold embroidered fabrics, with a particularly impressive antique ebony four poster bed from the dutch era, and adjoining black & white 1920s styled designer bathroom.

Pondicherry
With twin four poster beds carved from teakwoodin the early 19th century french style. The room is decorated in a cream and coral colour scheme creating a cool and serence atmosphere. There is a stylish en suite "art deco" bathroom.

Mandalay
This time the kign sized four poster bed is made from satinwood, a golden hardwood indigenous to the island and particularly sought after by British colonial furniture makers - it is now protected by law. This room offers a large and spacious en suite shower room.

Zanzibar
Although the smallest double room, Zanzibar definitely wins the price for best location. it is light and airy, situated off the verandah overlooking the sea, with a queen sized bed carved from jackwood. The spacious en suite shower room with a view.
